The American University of Nigeria opened its doors to its first students in 2005.
Founded by the former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, and in his own words -
AUN sees its role as a "Development University". It is located in North-Eastern Nigeria in Yola,
the state capital of Adamawa state, the vice president's hometown.
Having benefited from the U.S. system of instruction as a young man,
Abubakar sought to make this style of education - emphasizing critical thinking,
small classes, student participation, problem-solving with an American-trained faculty - available to all qualified young people of Nigeria and, increasingly,
to the rest of the world.
This university is in conformity with practices of other American universities outside the United States, such as the American University of Beirut and the American University of Paris. AUN is the only such institution of higher learning in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Established in 2002 by H.E. Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria,
AUN Academy is dedicated to preparing children to effectively compete and succeed in
the 21st century through academic excellence, self discipline and cultural respect.
The AUN Academy sets the highest standards and offers a wealth of well-structured,
balanced curriculum where students can achieve their full potential.
Our Community school (nursery through Primary 6) offers a comprehensive program that focuses on the mastery of basic skills. Along with these foundational subjects, our students receive ICT training, French, Art, Physical Education and Music.
